An artwork that is based off research of traditional reliquaries; vessels that holds relics. This artwork is a series of contemporary reliquaries that uses mundane, everyday objects as the relics, to reflect how humans imbue meaning into mundane everyday objects, through displaying them in elaborate vessels. All works are crafted from brass and nickel silver that has been filed and polished to a high shine.
Reliquary for the Morning Routine, displays a tube of toothpaste as a ‘relic’. It features a mechanism that allows the three rings to move, creating a cyclical effect indicative of a repetitive routine, as well as a series of fake teeth on the base ring.
Reliquary for the Sunday Roast, is a nod to the home comforts and weekly family traditions such as the Sunday roast. It showcases ebonised American walnut, paired with a series of hand-cut nickel silver feathers, and silver forks that have been bent and manipulated.
Reliquary for Student Housing, is an ode to the trials of students trying to find somewhere affordable to live on a budget. The official termination letter is protected in a locket style necklace, featuring a chain crafted from hand-cut nickel silver pieces and several found object keys.
