Offsprout
Offsprout was an exploration of wire weaving crafted for the exhibition Head Seed at Studio 551 in September 2024. Inspired by fishing baskets and pods, the work aims to create an anthropomorphic feel of connection, by linking the larger pod to a smaller pod via an unravelling tendril, whilst also playing with the irony of mimicking organic forms that eventually disintegrate in their natural environment using a rigid material such as copper. The copper used for this work was recycled from old electrical cables, giving a material that would be otherwise discarded or in landfill, a newfound life.
